Like Bubbles in Your Water?
Posted Feb 19, 2010
Does drinking carbonated water have the same health benefits as
drinking still water?
A. If it's just the bubbles we're talking about then sure, as
long as you don't mind burping all day.
The health benefits of water
come through hydration and although almost all beverages hydrate us,
we shouldn't be consuming lots of liquid calories or too many
additives such as sodium, sugar and coloring.
An interesting study
has just been published in the American Journal of Clinical
Nutrition. Using data from more than 12,000 Americans between 1999
and 2006, researchers found that the more water people drank, the
more fibre and the less sugar they consumed.
The water drinkers also
consumed a healthier diet with a lower intake of high calorie foods.
The take-home message in this study is clear. Get most of your daily
fluids from pure water, a few bubbles won't hurt, but check the
label for additives first.
